I worked as a designer with a team of four students at Cornell Tech and with executives at Verizon to come up with viable solutions for a major civic problem. Verizon's challenge to us was "How might we use Verizon's network data to help government and enterprises identify and respond to civic problems".
Our product, Tempus can send individualized message alerts to each person in a particular area to evacuate them in the best way possible. Our smart alert system takes into account crowds and congestion to find the best route. It will also continuously keep people informed until the emergency situation is resolved. This system is applicable to any type of disaster or emergency.
Our coded prototype uses the Google Maps API and simulated Verizon network data to generate the individualized alerts.
